Section I: How to Create a User Profile (first-time users only)

1) Open your browser window and enter: http://www.turnitin.com, or go to Sullivan Library's homepage at: http://library.sullivan.edu and click on the Turnitin® logo.
2) If this is your first time using Turnitin®, select "create a user profile". If you have already created a user profile, proceed to Section II of this document.
3) Select "student" from the drop-down menu. Click "next".

4) Enter the class ID and class enrollment password that your instructor provided. If you did not receive this information or have lost it, contact your instructor directly. Click "next". *Tip: the password is case-sensitive.
5) The next screen will indicate that you have successfully joined the class (this example lists the class as ENG 102 6:00-9:40 but your class may be ENG101, BUS214 or another class). Enter the email address that you'd like to use for this class. All Turnitin® correspondence, including your digital receipt will be sent to this address. Click "next". *Tip: if you're using your Sullivan account, be sure to include your full address, e.g. jsmith1234@student.sullivan.edu.
6) Next, enter a password of your choice into both boxes. Click "next". *Tip: Write it down.
7) Now use the drop down menu to choose "a secret question." Answer the secret question in the "question answer" box. Click "next." NOTE: The secret questions that you have to choose from include: "What is your mother's maiden name?", "What is your father's middle name?", "What are the last five digits of your SSN?", "What was your first phone number?", "What is your library card number?", "Who is your favorite author?", "What is your favorite book?", "What is your favorite movie?", Who is your favorite actor/actress?", "What is your favorite T.V. show?", "Who is your favorite athlete/sport figure?", "What is your favorite song?", and "What is your favorite music group?"

8) Enter your first name and your last name. Click "next."

8) Read Turnitin's user agreement and click "I agree -- create profile". Tip: you must agree to the user agreement if you wish to use Turnitin®.
9) This final screen confirms that you have created a user profile and have also enrolled in a class. Click "end wizard and go to login page" to proceed, or close your browser window and return later. Tip: you only need to create one profile for all of your Sullivan University courses.

Section II: How to Log In

1) Open your browser window and enter: http://www.turnitin.com or go to Sullivan Library's homepage at: http://library.sullivan.edu and click on the Turnitin® logo.
2) Enter the email address and password you used when you created your user profile and click the "Log In" button. If you have not yet created a user profile, go to Section I of this document. Tip: passwords are case-sensitive.

Section III: How to Submit a Paper

1) Once you have logged in to Turnitin®, a list of the classes in which you've enrolled will appear on the screen. Select the class you'd like to enter by clicking on its title, e.g. "ENG 102 6:00-9:40".
2) A list of your assignments for this class appears on the next screen. Click on the paper icon with the blue arrow beneath the word "submit". *Tip: you will not be able to submit your assignment if the due date has expired.
3) On the next screen your user profile name will already appear. Enter a title for your assignment in the box next to "submission title" and select either "file upload" or "cut & paste" from the drop-down menu.
4)  Next either, cut and paste the content of your assignment directly from your open file, or click the "Browse" button and find the file on your computer.
5) Your assignment will appear in the next screen. Scroll down to review. If you're satisfied, click the "yes, submit" button. If not, click "no, go back" and repeat steps 3 & 4.
6) A confirmation message called your "Turnitin digital receipt" will appear in the next screen. A copy will also be sent to the  email address you used to log in. Tip: we suggest that you either record the paper id number or print a copy for your records.
7) Click the folder icon with the blue arrow below "portfolio" to return to your class. Notice that the assignment that you just submitted now appears. Tip: you will only be able to submit one file for each assignment. Contact your instructor if you make a mistake and need to replace the file you originally submitted.
8) Lastly, click the "logout" tab at the top of your screen when you're finished or click on the "my classes" tab to return to your main screen.

Section IV: How to Add a Class

1) If you've already created a user profile and need to add another class, log in to Turnitin® (see instructions in Section II), then click the "enroll in a class" tab from your main screen.
2) Enter the class ID and class enrollment password that your instructor provided. If you did not receive this information or have lost it, contact your instructor directly. Click "next". *Tip: the password is case-sensitive.

Section V: Help, I lost my password!

1) If you've lost the password you use to log in to Turnitin®, open your browser window and enter: http://www.turnitin.com or go to Sullivan Library's homepage at: http://library.sullivan.edu and click on the Turnitin® logo. Tip: this is the password you chose when you first created your user profile. If you've lost the password that accompanies your class ID, contact your instructor.
2) Next, click on "password help" beneath the log in box.
3) Enter the email address you entered when you first created your user profile and click "submit". A message with instructions for resetting your email will be sent to you at that address. *Tip: you must must respond within 60 minutes.
