1. Quality of a site's content is the most important selection criterion.  Content should have an educational purpose which will support the College curricula.

  2. Sites should have an intended audience of students, educators, or professionals in areas related to course disciplines.   Content should be relevant to and appropriate to the intended audience.

  3. Site content should be easy to read and understand by the intended audience.  Spelling and grammar should always be correct.  The information should be current and accurate, and content should be updated regularly.  Site graphics should be relevant and appropriate to the content.

  4. Sites restricting access, or requiring payment or membership, will generally not be included.

  5. Sites should be more than a link to other sites.  However, sites consisting mainly of links should have a well-chosen, current assortment supporting the College curricula.

  6. On sites with advertising, the advertising should not outweigh the informational content.

  7. Sites should be easily navigated by users.   The design elements and features on the site, such as searchable databases, animations, graphics, sound files, introductory and transitional pages, etc. should enhance and not hinder the accessibility to the site's content.

  8. Required "plug-ins" or other requisite applications should be clearly identified.

  9. The interactive features should be explained clearly.

  10. Sites should load quickly and only be included if they intend to continue to exist for a long time.  Sites should normally be linked at the top level, but lower levels linkage may sometimes be more appropriate.  Lower levels should not normally be linked if they can be easily tracked from the top level.

  11. The individual or group authoring or sponsoring the site should be clearly evident.

  12. Information/content should come from a source which is reputable, authoritative, and reliable. Sites containing information which can not be verified should not be recommended, i.e. sites should give a source for information.

  13. Site webmasters should be responsive to any questions regarding copyright, trademark, or ownership of all material on the site.   Sites knowingly violating copyright or other laws should not be recommended.
