Sullivan University is pleased to introduce United States Congressman Mike Sodrel as commencement speaker for the spring, 2005 commencement ceremony.
Congressman Sodrel, a native of New Albany, Indiana, joined the Army National Guard, as a young man, where he advanced to the rank of Staff Sergeant before being honorably discharged. Congressman Sodrel remains today a strong supporter or our Nation’s military and remains active through his memberships in the American Legion and 40 & 8.
Congressman Sodrel, a strong community supporter is a very involved leader in community organizations including the Boy Scouts of America, the Rotary Club, Junior Achievement, the Chamber of Commerce, the National Federation of Independent Business and the Boys and Girls Club.
As a successful businessman and entrepreneur, Congressman Sodrel built a transportation and delivery enterprise that is known throughout the United States for quality, reliability and safety. His transportation venture, known as the “Free Enterprise System” offers first class travel for large groups or smaller groups desiring ground transportation in a sophisticated, high class style. In 2000, Mike Sodrel added to this dynamic organization, Sodrel Logistics also known as “SOLO” which grew the company by over 500 employees.
In 2004, Mike Sodrel was elected to the United States Congress to represent the ninth Congressional District in Indiana where he supports Hoosier values and a strong economy. Endorsed by U.S. Speaker Dennis Hastert, Vice-President Dick Cheney and President George Bush, Congressman Sodrel is proving himself to be a tremendous asset to the citizens of Indiana. His values, ethics and responsibilities as Congressman will be equally beneficial to the Nation as a whole.
Congressman Sodrel resides in New Albany, Indiana and has been married to Marquita “Keta” Dean Sodrel of Jeffersonville for 36 years. They have two children, a son, Noah and a daughter, Keesha, who each have three children. The Congressman and his wife are active members of Southeast Christian Church, the location of today’s commencement ceremony.
