Student Use Of Computer Software And Electronic Mail

It is the policy of Sullivan University System to provide for the work related computing needs of its students.  The system and machines used to this end are to be used only for Sullivan University System purposes and protected from misuse and unauthorized access

Software

The System legally licenses the use of software from many vendors and developers.   It does not own the related software or documentation.  Unless specifically authorized in writing from the vendor or developer, no one has the right to copy this software or documentation

Only company authorized software used in accord with the applicable licensing agreement shall be run on Sullivan University System equipment.  Violations of this policy are to be reported to the campus or division head.

According to US copyright law, illegal reproduction of software can be subject to civil damages of as much as $100,000 and criminal penalties including fines and imprisonment.

Electronic Mail (e-mail)

Offensive or vulgar e-mail messages such as messages that contain sexual or racial comments are strictly prohibited, in conformity with the Sullivan University System schools existing policies against harassment and discrimination.

Students may not attempt to use passwords to gain access to coworker's e-mail or computer files without prior authorization.

The Sullivan University System owns the e-mail system and information transmitted and stored within the system.  Employees have no expectation of privacy or confidentially in any of their e-mails.  Employee e-mail may be monitored and is subject to inspection at any time.

Students who make, acquire, or use unauthorized copies of computer software or violate the e-mail policy are subject to appropriate disciplinary action, up to and including expulsion from college.
