Finding Books:

Search the library catalog for specific media topics, such as advertising, television, radio broadcasting, motion pictures, sex on television, etc; or, browse the following subject areas in the Dewey Decimal numbers indicated below:

Also, Sullivan University Library offers the Library Alert service, which is designed to alert SUS students, faculty and staff of the latest titles @ the Sullivan University Louisville library! Sign up to be notified by e-mail when the library receives new books, videos, DVDs, etc., in the categories that interest you.

The Louisville Free Public Library (LFPL) also has many resources on this topic.  Sullivan students may apply for a LFPL card and check out materials at LFPL branches.  Use the same specific topics above to search the LFPL catalog.

Note than when searching for books, you will use broader search terms (e.g.. television), but when searching for articles in the databases, you will use more specific terms (e.g. Jerry Springer).

Fast access to information on over 60,000 companies. Now indexes The Wall Street Journal.

Academic Search Premier: An EBSCOhost? database indexing 4,450 scholarly /peer-reviewed journals back to 1975 and providing the corresponding full-text/full-image for articles in all academic disciplines. Updated daily.

Alt-Press Watch: Available through ProQuest?, this database provides access to articles from alternative and independent press newspapers, magazines and journals that provide a valuable non-mainstream source of coverage, viewpoints and perspectives to that of traditional media sources.

Business Source Premier An EBSCOhost? database indexing 3,650+ scholarly/peer-reviewed business journals back to 1922 and providing the corresponding full-text/full-image for articles on all business subjects  including management, finance and accountingAlso includes country economic reports as well as comprehensive  profiles for the 10,000 largest companies:  click the COMPANY PROFILE tab on the toolbar at the top of the page.  Updated daily.

Computing: Available through ProQuest?, this database information on computing topics, including software, hardware, e-commerce, Web site development, networking, system design, databases and technology management. It also contains thousands of product reviews.

 Directory of Open Access Journals:  This service covers 815 free, full text, quality-controlled scientific and scholarly journals in all subjects and languages.

MasterFILE Premier: An EBSCOhost? database primarily designed as a general reference tool for public libraries, this database provides full-text articles from reference sources including magazines, books, biographies, primary documents, photos, maps and flags.  Updated daily.

Newspaper Source: An EBSCOhost? database providing full-text articles from 23 national and international newspapers, television and radio news transcripts, and 200 regional U.S. newspapers.  Updated daily.

Louisville Free Public Library Databases:  users need a Louisville Free Public Library card to access these databases

  • Business and Company Resource Center:  A comprehensive database of company and industry information, and business journals and newspapers.

  • New York Times: Newspaper articles from New York Times, many include full text.

Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center: Critical Thinking?: This resource is a comprehensive, full-text database providing differing points of view on current social issues, such as affirmative action, censorship, ecology, mental health, and many other social issues.

TOPICsearch: An EBSCOhost? full-text database providing full-text articles related to current events on social scientific, political and economic issues.

 

Periodical Search:

Use the periodical search function on the Catalog home page to find periodical titles indexed in our databases.  For example, if you have a citation to an article and want to see if it is available full-text in our databases, search for the journal title, and the system will lead you to the correct database.
