Finding Books:

 

Search the library catalog using a specific topic, such as freedom of the press or banned books, or browse the following subject areas below.

Academic Search Premier: An EBSCOhostŪ database indexing 4,450 general and specific scholarly /peer-reviewed journals back to 1975 and providing the corresponding full-text/full-image for articles in all academic disciplines. Updated daily.

ArticleFirstŪ Database:  This OCLC database contains bibliographic citations that describe items listed on the table of contents pages of journals in the areas of science, technology, medicine, social science, business, the humanities, and popular culture.  Both popular and scholarly works are covered.  No full-text articles are available. 

 

Louisville Free Public Library Databases:  Louisville Free Public Library card required to access their databases.

 

Newspaper Source: An EBSCOhostŪ database providing full-text articles from 23 national and international newspapers, television and radio news transcripts, and 200 regional U.S. newspapers.  Updated daily.

 

Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center: Critical Thinking:  A full-text database providing differing points of view on current social issues, such as affirmative action, censorship, ecology and mental health.

 

Sociological Collection : This database provides coverage of more than 500 full text journals, including nearly 500 peer-reviewed titles. Sociological Collection offers information in all areas of sociology, including social behavior, human tendencies, interaction, relationships, community development, culture and social structure. This database is updated daily via EBSCOhost.

Banned Books Week : A section of the American Library Association website devoted to Banned Books week, including a background area with comprehensive resources.

 

Banned Books Week: Celebrating the Freedom to Read! : A list of sources compiled at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Center for Instructional Materials and Computing.

 

Beacon for Freedom of Expression : A project produced by the Norwegian Forum for Freedom of Expression with contributions from the Norwegian National Library. Includes information on the history of censorship around the world, as well as other related topics.

 

Censored : Provides links that cover many difference areas of the topic of censorship, including organizations involved with the issues.

 

Forbidden Library : Includes an alphabetical list of banned and challenged books by author and title, as well as other censorship resources.
